Back in April 2023, the FCA’s Sarah Pritchard gave a speech at City Week on the topic of regulating cryptoassets: 

“… nearly a decade and a half since its creation, crypto - that one-time symbol of alternative rebellion - has become more widespread. And yet so few consumers know what it is, how it works and what they are getting into. As this once alternative investment becomes more popular, we need an open debate about risk, mitigation and the limits of regulation.”

These comments highlight the fact that whilst cryptoassets have become ever more popular, consumers don’t quite understand what they’re getting themselves into.  This poses risks for the consumers, but also for firms too.  With the advent of consumer duty, firms have plenty to lose if they don’t meet regulatory standards.

Priscilla is a former consultant, CCO and MLRO, experienced in providing regulatory oversight and advice to firms across the financial services industry. She is responsible for our thought leadership programme, writing regular articles and white papers, and hosting webinars on a variety of regulatory matters.

Her dual role also encompasses the oversight of risk management at Ruleguard.
